Just as the trees let go of old, dying leaves and they float away, AUTUMN is a wonderful time for us to “let-go” of anything that is no longer serving us. It is a time to clear out the old so that we can gather inward for the stillness of winter. This can be letting go of old thought patterns, habits that are not supportive or things from the past that we still cling to. This can be a challenge because letting things go is often associated with a sense of loss or grief, but by not allowing these things to fall away, we wind up carrying a much heavier load.
For some autumn can be a challenging time as it is a time during which we can let go of metaphorical “masks” and allow us to reveal our true authentic nature. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) autumn is a time of death. It can represent the death of anything no longer needed which allows space for a fresh rebirth in the spring. Kinesiology is a wonderful tool that can help support you during times of change. It can help you examine what you are holding on to and why, as well as assist you in the process of allowing it to fall away. Please call Yolande if you would like to find out more. Eating for Autumn As the leaves and grass dry up at this time of year so can our lungs, skin and large intestine; all associated with autumn and the metal element in TCM. Some foods that moisten include: nuts and seeds and their oils (olive, almond, tahini, flax); pears, apples, avocado and persimmon; and wholegrains such as barley and millet. It is also helpful to eat heartier and more pungent foods during this time. The sense of smell is very important during autumn so cooking with aromatic foods like garlic, ginger, rosemary, curries and peppers is helpful.
