Have you been feeling the urge to clear out your environment lately? Feeling the need to spring clean in autumn? It's all part of the letting go phase of the seasons we are in. Clearing out and decluttering your physical surroundings will create a space you can rest in and rejuvenate in over winter. It will also flow on to allow more mental, emotional and energetic space.
If you need some guidance on how to go about this task and haven't heard of the KonMari method yet, let me introduce you to it.Marie Kondo is a professional cleaning consultant and author of the best seller The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing. She has developed her own method, the KonMari method, of cleaning, tidying and decluttering your environment.
I've just started KonMari-ing (my best friend and I have made it a verb!) my belongings and I love it! The main reason I love it so much, apart from the tidy space it creates, is the energy behind it and the invitation to connect in to our heart and intuition entirely.
A very simplified summary of this method is that it asks you to connect to each item individually and check in with yourself, asking the same question each time. "Does this bring me joy?". If the answer is "Yes" the item is kept (and there is an amazing method organising your items). If it's "No" then the item is thanked for what it did for you and is let go.
I will admit I wasn't sure about this when I first heard about it but have to say I have been converted to this method. Once I started it was an easy and truly enjoyable experience. It surprised me how easily and quickly the answer came, even when it came to items of deep sentimental connection. If it's time with me was complete it was much easier than I expected to give gratitude to the item and let it move on.
This is still a work in progress for me as I take the time to go through everything, but the end result will be a tidy, declutterred environment only filled with things that bring me joy. Imagine living like that!
